One of our great joys at Creative Listening Center is seeing kids make improvements that lead to greater self esteem and joy. One consistent result we hear from kids and parents is an improved reading ability. Last spring 'Jacob' came to the center because his grandmother knew it would help.
He was in 4th grade, but reading at a third grade level, and older than the other children in his class. The following winter his family asked me to attend an IEP meeting, because there was much confusion in his life. He was repeating fourth grade, but having trouble adjusting.
It turns out that his reading improvements continued to accelerate so that he tested at a seventh grade level; he was twice as tall and more mature than most kids in his class; and the result of assessments was that he had no learning disability and they were going to transition him to a sixth grade class. We all celebrated with 'Jacob' that evening!
