04/16/2007 Non Profits - Increase Your Fundraising Results with Video

Are you sick of putting on fundraising events that just don't make as much money as you need? Would you like something that emotionally connects donors to your mission? What if your donors pulled out their checkbook and asked you - So, how much money do you need?

What we're describing isn't magic. It's reality. We're describing the power of video.

A well produced, well scripted video can bring viewers directly inside your mission. They'll walk with you through the stories and experiences of the community you serve. Your donors will truly understand why you do what you do and feel compelled to help.

Does video feell too expensive?

Think about this: How much would it be worth to your organization to increase the donations at your next fundraising event by 50% or 100% or more? The cost of a video is comparatively small when you think of all the ways you can put it to work for you. You could:

  • Use it at your next fundraising event

  • Sent it to potential donors

  • Put it on your website

In planning for a video you'll need

  • One hour with all the decision makers in your organization to meet with the video team to discuss your project
  • 6 – 8 weeks lead time, minimum
  • Someone to manage the project and be our contact person
  • Funding for your project.

How much will it cost?

Video projects vary in cost mainly depending upon length of the video itself. A fundraising video should be 5 – 7 minutes long. Most fundraising video projects don't need a lot of fancy editing or video shots, so the cost is relatively low -$1,000 - $1,250 per finished minute, meaning your project should cost between $5,000 and $9,000.

If cost still is an issue for you consider having a sponsor for your video. If your cause is an animal shelter for example, have a local pet store sponsor some of the cost of the video in exchange for credit at the end of the film. Maybe you support a children's cause. Have the local children's gym or clothes store be a sponsor. There are many ways to raise funds for an initial video. Be sure to set aside some of the money the video raises to pay for next year's endeavor.

Should we do more than one video?

We suggest making your video an annual event. There are always new challenges and new stories to tell. This also allows you to shift the focus of your fundraising if you need to do so.
