How To Choose a Chiropractor
Chronic Problems Need Thorough Diagnosis
A new patient told me she had been seeing a chiropractor off and on for over 20 years for a chronic problem. She thought he was excellent, but her condition never improved enough, and her friend referred her to me.
When I checked her, I also included her feet. She told me that her previous Chiropractor had never checked her feet. It turned out she needed some treatment related to them. With orthotics and excercise, her pains were soon gone!
Modern Equipment Makes a Major Difference
Another of my patients once told me that the first time she went to a Chiropractor, he did nothing but stand her up, use an obsolete, low-tech "clicker" tool up and down her spine, and charge her a big fee. She said she was really sore the next few days both from her original pain and also from that clicker. And, she didn't want to return to that office, even though she was still in a great deal of pain. She started to look for someone else.
How Do You Choose the Right Chiropractor?
I wanted to help her identify the real issues in choosing a Chiropractor. Years of experience have shown me that there's a vast difference among Chiropractic practices.
Feet and Orthotics Are So Important
First, one of my own areas of expertise in Chiropractic is knowing how to assess people's feet and determine whether orthotics would help. Actually, at least 80% of the time, the feet create the symptoms that cause people to come into my office. So, 80% of the time, my treatment usually involves orthotics and specific exercises. So immediately I would say, find a Chiropractor who is an expert in feet and orthotics.
Determining Your Best Choice
Beyond that, here's a list of very important ways of determining
whether a Chiropractor is your best choice:

Determining Your Best Choice
Beyond that, here's a list of very important ways of determining
whether a Chiropractor is your best choice:
- Tour their office. Is it a place that feels like a cold clinic, or is it inviting, comfortable, warm, and friendly?
- Enquire about the insurance they accept. Is it compatiblewith what you have? If not, keep looking!
- Find out what type of equipment they have.
- Is it the current, leading-edge technology? This is critical. Never underestimate how much better new technology can be!
- Find out whether their techniques are up to date and advanced. Did they study years ago and are still using the same adjustment style, or have they advanced their skills and stayed on the leading edge of technology and adjustment techniques?
- Visit their website and see their specialties and qualifications. Assess their experience, education, and community involvement. Are their skills advanced and specialized, and are they still learning and growing in their practice?
- Assess their attitude and energy. Are they just running a patient mill, or are they really 'involved'? Are they energetic and efficient?
- Are they friendly, positive, and kind? Do you feel comfortable and notice good, open communication with them? Can you feel that they take personal pride in their office, their staff, their equipment, and their own skills, efficiency, and knowledge? Do they seem to 'love their job'?
- How long does the treatment take? Is it a long ordeal, or is it quick and easy, and highly effective?
- Last, but of critical importance, do they examine your feet, and do they have advanced knowledge of feet and orthotics?
